Accent rugs, also called throw or small area rugs, may be small in stature, but they can make a big statement. They range from 2’ x 3’ to 4’ x 6’ in size. They can also be round and usually are about 4’ max in diameter.
An accent rug can also double as an area rug under certain circumstances—and vice versa. A small floral rug works as an area rug when it takes up the entirety of a small space, like a hallway or runner. Likewise, an area rug can become an accent rug when it’s used in a large space and catches the eye.
Speaking of captivation, the purpose of a small rug is to add color or texture (or both) to a room. It brings a sense of design to the space and ties in other accent colors from the surrounding furniture and decor.
